Fri, 24 August 2007 journeyPod is your guide to luxury travel guide around the world.
Vienna lies on the Danube Canal and is about a four hour train ride from Salzburg and a 45 minute flight from Zurich.
In the Spittleberg Quarter of Vienna you’ll feel like you are back in Old World Vienna, circa 1800. The tiny, winding cobblestone streets and 18th century buildings are amazing.
There are some absolutely breathtaking and memorable restaurants to satisfy your appetite within the Spittleberg Quarter. A few spots that journeyPod recommends include: Zu Ebener Erde Urd Erster Stock, Kristian’s Monastiri, and Boheme.
Be sure to read our Destination Guide on Vienna for more information on this “blast from the past of Old World Vienna.
When you’re ready to lay your head to rest, head to the journeyPod pick, Hotel Alstadt. We felt right at home! As I am sure Francis Ford Coppola did when he stayed here not too long ago as well!
Check out the rock sounds of The Walkers and their song, “European Woman.

Sun, 19 August 2007 journeyPod is your guide to luxury travel around the world.
Hello fellow jet-setters, we are in Salzburg, Austria!
Situated on the Salzach River, Salzburg is about a four hour train ride from Zurich and a four hour train ride from Vienna. Most of the major attractions are located in the Old City. It's easy to wander the cobblestone streets of the old town and become a part of history. Getreidegasse “Trade Street is the Rodeo Drive of Salzburg—shopping galore. And all the store signs are wrought-iron and very classy—even the McDonalds! You’ll want to see Mozart’s birth house—the most famous address in Salzburg.
The greatest views of Salzburg can be seen from atop the Monchberg peak at Fortress Hohensalzburg. (Think Sound of Music) And don’t worry, journeyPod did not partake in one of the CHEESEY (did we say CHEESEY) Sound of Music Tours!
You surely won’t go hungry in Salzburg: there are a tons of great places to sample the local cuisine. At De Weiss, a beer garden, you can blend in with the locals. At Sternbrau try the weiner schnitzel, or down a few Steigl beers at Skiftskeller St. Peter.
Be sure to read our Destination Guide on Salzburg for more information on this High-Baroque city!
When you’re ready to lay your head to rest, head to the journeyPod pick, Hotel Sacher. This top-notch beauty is situated on the banks of the Salzach River. Hillary and Chelsea Clinton stayed here as did the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. journeyPod met with Elfie Kammerhoffer, the Managing Director of the Hotel Sacher Salzburg.
Enjoy the rock sounds of Mozart Rottweiler with Sinister Undertones and their song, “Castles and Dragons.

Wed, 15 August 2007 When you think of Rock-n-roll music - The Doors, Led Zepelin, Guns-n-Roses may come to mind. One of the unique things about these bands is that they all started off in West Hollywood, playing at many clubs on Sunset Strip. If you are visiting Los Angeles, you owe yourself a trip to this iconic street. So much history and so many stories...if only the sidewalks could talk.
Some of these "glamorous" nightclubs from the 60's,70's and 80's are still around- The Whisky, for example, is where The Doors started as a house band in the late 60's.
And speaking of stories, The Hyatt on Sunset, better known as "The Riot House" has many stories to tell. If you want to stay at one hotel with history - you gotta stay here!
The notorious hotel is currently going through a major renovation- which includes replacing the notorious balconies - that's right no more balconies for Axl Rose to BBQ from and then throw steaks at the people walking below (true story from 1986).
journeyPod had the opportunity to tour this iconic property as is - before the renovation. We were also fortunate to stay in the famed Suite 905 - also known as the "Robert Plant Suite" - one of the most photographed suites in Hollywood. Photographers are happy just to get a picture of the outside of the door. Apparently in 1975 Robert Plant was quoted saying, "I am a golden god!" from the balcony during an interview. One evening Keith Moon, drummer of the Who, climbed from his suite to serve him a cocktail.
Enjoy the appropriate sounds of Indigo Shadow and their song, "Window Riot".
